Nearctic Peregrines Falco peregrinus anatum
&  Falco peregrinus tundrius

The very dark 2nd CY bird I photographed on 28th March 2011
in The Netherlands looks very similar to Chris' birds.
Could it be a North American bird?

The Tundra Peregrine of North America

In the Wiki article on Tundra falcons, the only thing that
stands out as odd is the description of tundrius having
a dark crown, unlike calidus. I happen to have the cited
reference here (Proctor and Lynch, 1993, Manual of Ornithology)
and nowhere in this volume is there a mention of tundrius having
a dark crown, or a comparison of it to calidus. The information,
then, seems to be cited erroneously.

On the expectation of tundrius occurring in Europe Christian says:
'Tundrius birds certainly can be darker crowned than on my or
the Scilly bird, but it's difficult to conclude that the bird
you have photographed belongs to this distant population
when the traits that it possesses are matched by the more
likely Palearctic types, especially calidus. Until a pale-crowned
juvenile with a bold supercilium shows up (with a band/ring, please).'

On 16th of February 2005 I took these pictures of a distinctly
pale-crowned 2CY Peregrine. At the time I thought it to be a bird
belonging to the race calidus now I am not so sure!
